Our Story
Souder Farms Sweet Corn started in the summer of 1985 when Steve was just 10 years old. He planted just a few rows next to his dad's field corn selling to neighbors and family friends out front of the house on the honor system.
Each year Steve began to grow more and more. Now, nearly 40 years later, he grows over 70 acres of sweet corn. Around 2000, Steve built a hoop barn and a stand at the farm selling his sweet corn along with other local fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes and watermelon.
In 2014, Steve began his newest and biggest adventure, processing our sweet corn. Sweet corn is picked and frozen just within a few hours. We have machines that shuck it, silk it, and cut if off the cob. It is blanched and scooped into a clear bag to vacuum seal and freeze. We sell our frozen sweet corn all year long. Several restaurants have it on their menus and other retail stores sell our frozen sweet corn as well.
We are open most Saturdays throughout October to June during our off season. In addition to selling our frozen sweet corn, we also sell our grain fed beef. This includes ground beef, several steak cuts, and varieties of roasts. Our family also sells grain fed pork, such as, sausage, pork chops, tenderloins and smoked sausage.
We grow many different varieties of sweet corn. Our favorite of which are nectar, montauk, honey select and many customers enjoy ambrosia. 90% of our sweet corn is bicolor.
Last season we were able to harvest and freeze over 70,000 pounds of sweet corn!
We are open daily July through mid September when we have fresh sweet corn. *please check facebook for specific opening date and times* In addition to sweet corn we sell other fruits and vegetables that are as local as possible. Tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, green beans, strawberries, potatoes, onions, and many other items. We also have our frozen sweet corn, beef and pork for sale during this time as well.
We have a kitchen on our farm where we bake cookies, breads, misc desserts, and pies during holidays.
